Hi, sorry not been in touch 4 a while been away on a course in surrey. I have been keeping up on my training upping my mileage and doing more runs in the evening to get used to the dark and cold. There are a couple of nice routes here. One along the canal, which has been good practice for running along the Thames. Just like to say thanks to Ed and Chief for keeping me going and taking the time out for training

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I’m back to work now and ive been bad since I last jotted down some notes. Ive only do 1 run and some hill walking in Scotland over the New Year. No enough by far. So back into it full throttle!! I`m also doing this for charity this year along with 2 more ULTRAs so if your reading this and you want to donate please go to this website, its for the DOWN Syndrome association as I have a 5 year old daughter with DOWNS.

What a day today loads to do and no time for a run until half 6 I got 7 miles in though until it got too dark and my torch batteries started to die. Ive been trying to keep myself at a steady 5 mile hour pace not too quick, not too slow. I went too quick last TM covering the first checkpoint in just over an hour. Once id got back to my room and had a hot bath to relax followed by a nice cold beer (strictly Carb building reasons only).
Keep on running.

Today I learned the hard way that running cross-country with a 3-wheeler buggy is not a good idea. I wanted to go for a nice long run on Sunday and my partner suggested that I take our 1 year old in the buggy good idea I thought, that is until I hit the first hill and my legs felt as if was on mile 49 on the TM. Next problem I hadn’t thought about was stiles. Trying to lift him and the buggy over stiles was a sight to see. I think that next time ill stick to the roads.

Back in work today and I was out a 0630 jogging round my usual route nice to not have to push my boy and nice to relax before my days work. My unit has returned from Afghanistan so this week is going to be extra busy until they go on their well-deserved post tour leave. I also did my first night run to get myself back into running in the dark with a head torch on, hard work but worth it something that I did for my last meander and found that it helped a lot. Still weird though, it’s like running in a tunnel except you have to worry about the terrain that you’re running on.

Hi pouring with rain to day so Im glad that I did 2 runs yesterday; I might go out later or first thing tomorrow. Depends on how guilty I feel later and if I can get away this afternoon during daylight.
Keep on running.

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007Just a quick note on my training. I did a lovely five miler last night really enjoyed it. I went out over the range roads and tracks on Salisbury Plain. It was cold, wet, windy and muddy but it was nice to get out of the office and forget about work and let myself go.
Keep on running.

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007Kathy called me up and asked me if I was interested in starting this blog thing. I gave it a bit of thought and here I am.
I suppose I should tell you about myself. Im a serving soldier, 38 years old, in my last 20 months of a 24-year career. Ive got four kids one of which has DOWNs which is why Im doing my second TM. I did my first one only in 2006 following my first marathon in 2005. Being in the Army means that Im pretty ok on the fitness side but I do have to do a lot of distance running in my own time as most of the runs that my unit do are less than five miles. Which means my distance training is done on an evening or weekend, ok in the summer but now the nights are drawing in I have to deploy my head torch more often. I have had a couple of injures so far, a twisted ankle followed by a pulled hamstring. With plenty of stretching, they both have healed now. ive now got a stinking head cold which has also slowed me up.
Ill drop you another line in a few days or so with some pics of my training routes.
Keep on running.
